We were introduced to the former derelict school, by our friend and past pupil in 2021, instantly falling in love. Coming from both construction and design backgrounds, we were captivated by is beautiful symmetry and generous spaces. We knew we had to save this magnificent building from the ravishes of 30 years of neglect, which marked the beginning of our two years of dedication to bring life back to the old school.
As we got to know the local community, who regularly checked up on our progress, dropping off photographs and newspaper snippets of the former life of the school, we knew that keeping as much of the original fixtures and fittings were paramount. Liam achieved this by re purposing or reusing everything from the floorboards to the desks into handcrafted concealed walls, the bench seat, the sofa, even the stairs! Every aspect of the interior was considered and if he could make it from what the school offered, that was always the first option!
The brief we gave ourselves when designing Dillon School House, was for it to be a luxurious, modern space that still kept lots of the buildings original character and charm. A bright and joyful place that can be enjoyed by family and friends of all ages - A welcoming space that hopefully you will fall in love with, just like we did.
